Whenever we mention how to extend system partition of Windows Server 2008, the first thing goes through our mind is Windows 2008 built-in Disk Management tool. Compare with Windows 2003 and 2000 Server, there is partition resizing function in Windows Server 2008 Disk Management snap-in. It is very useful when the system partition is suffering "low disk space warning" by allocating more free space and improving the performance of the Windows Server 2008 machine. However, the Disk Management Windows 2008 Server is limited:
"Extend Volume" only works with contiguous unallocated space at the right side of the partition that you want to extend. However, "Shrink Volume" can only free up unallocated space behind the partition you shrink.
